Vampire Diaries
Caroline and Bonnie have different ways of helping Elena through her breakup with Damon. CW

“The Vampire Diaries” may have been on hiatus for the past few weeks, but the CW series is showing no signs of slowing down. A new promo video for episode 11, “500 Years of Solitude,” has leaked online and is making it very clear that the Damon-Elena breakup in the midseason finale definitely did happen … and the wounds are still fresh!

For fans who have forgotten, episode 10, “Fifty Shades of Grayson,” concluded with Katherine collapsing of a heart attack and Damon breaking up with Elena. “I’m bad, Elena,” he tells his lover. “I’m bad for you … I’m choosing to let you go. I’m choosing to relieve you of having to defend me of every awful thing I’ve ever done.”

Elena is a fighter and definitely not ready to give up on her man, but Damon was certainly not playing around. When “The Vampire Diaries” picks up on Thursday, viewers will find the main story line being Katherine’s impending demise … but also the struggles of Damon and Elena’s breakup.

The new promo video shows both Elena and Damon dealing with the end of their relationship in their own ways. For Elena that involves hiding under the covers of her dorm room bed, and for Damon it means drinking himself into a passed-out stupor at the Mystic Falls Grill. But the really surprising part is how their friends are taking the split (Stefan of course excluded).

Caroline, who has never been a “Delena” supporter, chooses to shower Elena with a fancy “breakup breakfast.” And by the look on Bonnie’s face it looks like the former witch knows that Caroline has taken her hatred for Damon one step too far. “My what?” Elena says with a little bite to her ecstatic friend.

As Caroline pours Elena a mimosa, Bonnie questions her about just giving up on her relationship with Damon. But Caroline doesn’t agree with the tactic Bonnie is taking to help Elena through the breakup. While Elena shrugs about potentially giving up on her relationship, Caroline argues that she should.

“I mean he did say, and I quote, ‘I’m a bad person. I am bad for you, and I’m choosing to let you go,’” Caroline continues.

“You memorized my breakup?” an annoyed Elena asks. “Of course I did,” Caroline tells her.

Meanwhile, at the Mystic Falls Grill, Jeremy breaks the news to Matt about the breakup while a drunk Damon lies with his head on the bar. “Why?” Matt asks over Damon. “Who spends two years pining after a girl to dump her?”

But Damon’s not passed out. “I can hear you dumb***,” he tells the two humans before pouring himself another shot.
