“Vampire Diaries” fans on Team Stefan were devastated at the end of season four when Elena chose to be with the elder Salvatore. To add more salt to the wound, Silas was revealed to be Stefan’s doppelganger, and was locked in a box and thrown into a body of water. With season five approaching at the beginning of October, how will the Stefan/ Silas plot line factor into the hit CW vampire series?

According to TVGuide.com, the show will be picking up three months after Silas got the upper hand on Stefan. Executive producer Caroline Dries revealed Stefan has “been drowning, dying and coming back to life.” That sounds like a pretty rough three months.

But while Stefan suffers, his friends and brother will be having a jolly ol’ summer. “Elena and Damon are a super-sexy couple and happy for once,” dished Dries. “Caroline is ready to start school. Nobody knows that Bonnie is dead, so it’s bliss, but then there’s Stefan just dying.”

Fortunately “Vampire Diaries” fans won’t have to wait until the season five premiere to catch a glimpse of the Stefan/Silas drama. On July 23 Joshua Butler, a director for the series, tweeted a photo from the set showing poor Stefan floating in his box underwater. “Happy Birthday to the awesome @PaulWesley on the 1st shooting day of #TVD 5x02,” Butler posted. “Amazing actor and a real trooper.”

"Vampire Diaries" director Joshua Butler tweeted a photo of Paul Wesley portraying a drowning Stefan.

The photo comes a couple days after “The Vampire Diaries” released a special video for Comic-Con. While the video mainly highlighted the Stefan, Elena, Damon love triangle from the past four seasons the last couple moments teased Silas’ rise to power in Mystic Falls.

On stage at the Mystic Falls Town Square End Of Summer Party (these people love to celebrate), Stefan’s doppelganger takes the mic to reveal his control over the townspeople.

“This summer I have consumed an immeasurable amount of blood and I have found myself getting strong and stronger every day,” Silas says to a shocked yet captivated crowd. “And I started to wonder, what are the limits to my powers? How many people can I influence? Two? Ten? An entire town square?”

And it appears that his answer is “an entire town square.” Ending his speech, a ghost Bonnie screams in the crowd while what looks like her father lies unconscious on the stage floor.

“The Vampire Diaries” returns for its fifth season on Thursday, October 10 at 8 p.m. on the CW. What are your thoughts on Stefan/Silas? Let us know in the comments section.
