On a show about vampires and other supernatural beings, it’s no surprise that A LOT of deaths happen. According to online rumors, the season 5 premiere of “The Vampire Diaries” will feature not one but two deaths. And for those supposing that the death will be some random new character we meet in the first episode -- think again!
The episode 1 death rumors come courtesy of TVFanatic.com, who had the pleasure of seeing an advance screening of the season 5 premiere, “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” The site dished the following:
“Two characters are killed, one of whom played a big role on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 4.’

It sounds like one character that might be killed off is a newcomer, and our bets are on a new Whitmore College student named Megan. As we previously reported, Elena and Caroline will be roommates at school and believe that they’ll be sharing a triple with Bonnie. What they don’t know, though, is that Bonnie accidentally died while performing magic at the end of season 4. The girls think their friend has just been traveling all summer, but they’ll get a little suspicious when Megan shows up “and announces that she will be sharing their dorm room.”
What makes us suspicious is that in a leaked synopsis for episode 2, Elena and Caroline will decide to take matters into their own hands to find out who is trying to cover up a murder on campus. Are they getting involved because it was a person relatively close to them?
As for the character who played a “big role” in season 4 of “The Vampire Diaries,” we believe that the victim may be Bonnie’s father, Rudy Hopkins.
Rudy has been mentioned throughout the “Vampire Diaries” but never actually appeared on screen until season 4, when he took over Carol Lockwood’s position as mayor of Mystic Falls. Thanks to the episode 1 description, we know that Silas will be revealing himself at the annual Mystic Falls “End Of Summer” party, and the official promo video shows that he won’t be on stage alone – he’ll be right next to Bonnie’s dad!
“This summer I have consumed an immeasurable amount of blood,” Silas tells an eerily captivated crowd at the town party. “And I have found myself getting stronger and stronger every day. And I started to wonder … what are the limits to my powers? How many people can I influence? Two? Ten? An entire town square?”
What leads us to believe that Rudy may be the season 5 premiere victim is that while everyone looks on quietly, a scream from ghost Bonnie can be heard breaking through the silence. Another hint? Mystic Falls mayors have a history of being killed.
