The second half of “The Vampire Diaries” season 7 will see beloved characters going through several challenges. One of these ordeals would be trying to escape from a vampire hunter and actress Annie Wersching recently shared in an interview why the huntress will be looking for Stefan Salvatore.

Friday, Jan.29, marked the return of “The Vampire Diaries” season 7 to the small screen with episode 10 titled “Hell is Other People,” which featured Damon Salvatore’s (Ian Somerhalder) escape from the Phoenix Stone and the devastating effect of having to go through his personal hell. Despite the alarming ending of the said episode, a bigger threat would be coming to Mystic Falls in the form of a vampire huntress and she’ll be going after the youngest Salvatore brother.

In an interview with TV Guide, former “The Vampire Diaries” mainstay cast Wersching, who portrayed the role of Lily Salvatore, revealed that the vampire huntress’s biggest goal would be to get Stefan (Paul Wesley). "Pretty much everyone gets in her cross-hairs. But anyone with the X scar on their body - it opens up for Stefan as you can see in the flash-forwards - and she's obviously hunting him. Stefan is the biggest goal for her that she's trying to flush out,” Wersching explained.

The vampire huntress Rayna, to be played by Leslie-Anne Huff, will be introduced in episode 12 of “The Vampire Diaries” season 7. “The Vampire Diaries” showrunner Caroline Dries also shared that upcoming episodes will show the mythology behind the sword. "It's all together. Once we understand the rules of that sword and who owns it and who's compelled by the sword, essentially, to kill vampires, it'll all make sense,” Dries told TV Guide.

Dries also mentioned in an E!News interview that the vampire hunter Rayna will be a “very scary” character that will even have the Heretics “shaking in their boots.” "You will understand her story—and I will say she is not what we are expecting!” Dries said of Huff’s character introduction in episode 12 titled “Postcards from the Edge.”

Meanwhile, the magical hunt for Stefan will have the youngest Salvatore brother escaping to New Orleans. The plot is part of “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” crossover episode set to happen this season. A previously released crossover promo clip featured a reunion between two old friends, Stefan and Klaus. In the clip, “The Originals” Klaus (Joseph Morgan) welcomes Stefan with a drink. “Welcome to New Orleans, old friend,” Klaus said.

“The Vampire Diaries” airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on the CW, followed by “The Originals” at 9 p.m.
