A brawl broke out on Tuesday night between Venezuelan lawmakers amid a tense atmosphere. The tense situation was fueled by the opposition party’s ongoing dispute regarding the result of the recent presidential election in Venezuela.

This brawl was by no means rhetorical or just scathing remarks: Actual punches were thrown and set several lawmakers on each other as they both joined the fight and attempted to break it up.

Seventeen opposition members including Julio Borges were injured, in addition to five pro-government members, according to the Associated Press. Lawmaker Ismael Garcia alleges that the pro-government party started the fight.

"In retaliation, the government-dominated assembly has barred opposition lawmakers from public speaking and sitting on legislative committees," AP reports.
