Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group Plc said on Thursday it has been working with five communications technology providers on developing the next generation of wireless Internet services.

Verizon Wireless, the No. 2 U.S. cellphone provider, said it has been collaborating for the past year with Cisco Systems Inc., Lucent Technologies Inc., Nortel, Cisco Inc. and Qualcomm Inc. on overcoming problems related to future services such as Internet telephony.
