Harold & Kumar will be back in theatres tomorrow with the third installment of the stoner comedy series to light up the Christmas season. John Cho and Kal Penn, who portray two immigrant American stoners, Harold Lee and Kumar Patel, are back with A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, three years after Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay was released in 2008.

The new movie follows a storyline which happens six years after their Guantanamo Bay adventure. Kumar and Harold were estranged from one another, and have been living separate lives with family and friends. Kumar comes to meet Harold with a mysterious package, but the reunion inadvertently leads to Kumar burning down Harold's father-in-law's Christmas tree. The movie promises a laugh riot as the friends go about New York City trying to replace the perfect Christmas tree.

The financially and critically successful series was earlier speculated to have ended with the second installment, after Penn accepted the position of the Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison in the Obama administration; on being asked if his new job would mean no more Harold and Kumar films, he said, That's probably true for now.

However, the third film was announced in May 2009 and Penn left his White House job in June 2010. Penn returned to the White House after the filming of the new movie was completed.
