A security guard got more than he bargained for Thursday when he stopped two teenage girls he suspected of shoplifting at a Victoria’s Secret in New York City. One of the girls was found to have a dead fetus in her bag.

According to the New York Post, the two 17-year-old girls were shopping at the Victoria’s Secret store on West 34th St and Broadway around 1:30 p.m. when they were stopped by security for swiping undergarments.

As the two were being cuffed by police, "it was discovered that one of the females had what we believe to be a fetus" in her bag, Sgt. Lee Jones of the New York Police Department confirmed to Business Insider.

The girl with the fetus in her bag was taken to Bellevue Hospital for mental evaluation. The other was taken to a nearby police station for questioning.

NBC New York reports that the girl told police she had suffered a miscarriage a day earlier. There were reportedly no signs of trauma on the baby.

The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the baby’s cause of death. Charges against the two are pending, the Post said.
