Chad Johnson, also known as Ochocinco, was cut by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

The team released him, following his arrest on domestic violence charges the night before, after he allegedly head-butted his wife, Evelyn Lozada.

HBO's "Hard Knocks" has been filming the Dolphins throughout training camp. On Tuesday's night's episode, Miami head coach Joe Philbin told Johnson that the team would be releasing him.

Johnson headed to the Dolphin's training facility, and suspected that his days in Miami were numbered. When he met with Philbin, he was sorry for his actions.

"I let you down a little bit. A lot. I understand what you're doing, you got the message across clear the first day we met," said Johnson. "I understood what you wanted from me and what you expected out of me, especially after our talk -- having fun with the media thing. I apologize for embarrassing you, this organization, my teammates."

Philbin let the wide receiver know that he understood his level of remorse, but said the arrest wasn't the only reason for the decision.

"It's not really just last night. It's where we are as a program, and where you are, and where we're headed, Philbin told Johnson. "I just don't see the mesh right now. I wish it was different. I wish I could tell you something more encouraging, but I just think it's best for both of us that we kind of part ways at this point in time. It's not like I'm trying to flex my muscle, to say, 'I'm the head coach, and let's make an example of Chad Johnson.' It has nothing to do with that. It's more about how you fit in, and how we fit in together, and where this thing is heading."

It's been a tumultuous week for Johnson. After being arrested and cut, his VH1 reality television show was canceled by the network. "Eve and Ocho," was set to premiere on Sept. 3.

On Tuesday, Lozada filed for divorce from her husband, claiming the relationship is "irretrievably broken."
