On a shocking last-minute goal from Daley Blind, Manchester United drew with West Ham United, 1-1, on Sunday at Upton Park. West Ham just missed getting a bit of revenge for a 2-1 loss they suffered to the Red Devils earlier in the year.

West Ham took a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute on a juggling, spinning volley by Cheikhou Kouyaté. The Senagalese center midfielder blasted a shot into the left corner of the net after recieving a cross from a set piece near the sideline. The great goal took a good bit of control and athleticism. It was Kouyaté's second score of the season.

The equalizer was a shocking shot from defensive midfielder Blind to even the score at 1-1 in the 93rd minute. It came with one minute left in stoppage time to save a point for the Red Devils. Blind shot a rebound from a clearing header into the right corner of the net, just past the out-stretched arms of West Ham keeper Adrián.

The West Ham goal opened the game up, as Manchester United pressed for an equalizer by pushing attackers up the field. Manchester United controlled the play for much of the match despite being down. Star winger Angel Di Maria was especially aggresive and created attacking chances with elusive dribbling on West Ham's side of the pitch. The Red Devils had a few upportunities at tieing the score before the shocker, including a scoring chance for forward Radamel Falcao in the 77th minute that looked like a sure goal. The Colombian national pushed a close chance wide after he was one-on-one with Adrián. The Hammers keeper was tested often after his squad went up 1-0. The Red Devils peppered him with 18 shots, six of which were on goal.

The match started evenly, both teams holding the ball for periods but not producing particularly dangerous scoring chances. Goalkeeper David De Gea continued his sterling play for Manchester United, making a few early saves, including a kicking block of a James Tompkins’ header from about six yards out. The first half, in all, was evenly played.

West Ham will hope to get a boost from increased health in the coming weeks (the possible return of forward Andy Carroll especially), while Manchester United will try to continue its ascent of the league table, which had been in full swing going into the West Ham match. Manager Louis Van Gaal's side have lost just once in their last 17 matches. Manchester United held onto third place in the league with the point, just ahead of Tottenham Hotspur. The over-acheiving West Ham remain in eighth place.

Manchester United move on and host Burnley in a Premier League match on Wednesday. The two sides drew 0-0 in their last meeting on Aug. 30. West Ham will travel to play in-form Southampton in a league match on Wednesday.
