After some sloppy play and a wild first half, Real Madrid settled down behind the play of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka in their 4-3 victory over Real Valladolid on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga play.
Kaka put Los Blancos ahead for good with his third goal of the season in the 49th minute, and Ronaldo totaled two goals helping Madrid avoid an upset. The Portuguese star played despite a sore hamstring that originally made him doubtful for the match.
Los Blancos suffered from a few mental miscues early, including the game’s first goal by Valladolid's Oscar Gonzalez, who generated his own fastbreak after a poor back pass and broke through in the eighth minute.
Angel di Maria netted Madrid’s equalizer in the 26th minute, curling in a shot from the right side of the pitch past defenseless Valladolid keeper Jamie Jimenez Merlo.
Ronaldo gave Los Blancos a 2-1 lead in the 32nd minute, but the Pucela's Javi Guerra responded with a goal three minutes later, assuring a 2-2 tie heading into the half.
At the half, Madrid fired off 16 shots, six on target, while Valladolid played a more patient, efficient game with four shots, and two on target.
Ronaldo then punctuated Los Blancos' win with a header off a corner kick from Mesut Ozil for his second score of the game in the 70th.
A late flurry of shots in the closing minutes gave Valladolid a corner kick, which Luis Sastre converted to a right footed shot beyond the box for a 4-3 score in the 87th, but the rally was too late.
