Real Madrid and Barcelona played another classic.

Once again, Lionel Messi proved his worth to the Catalans as Barcelona defeated their main rivals, 3-2, in the Super Cup on Wedneday at Camp Nou.

Messi scored twice, including the game winner, and had one assist as Barcelona started their season on a high note. His assist to Andres Iniesta in the first half was a thing of beauty.

Real Madrid proved they will be legitimate threats to win the La Liga title, as well. Los Galacticos received goals by Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema. Real Madrid were more aggressive in the match, but couldn't execute on their opportunities.

Cesc Fabregas made his debut for Barcelona. Kaka came in the game for Real Madrid.

Fabregas, in particular, was impressive. The former Arsenal star was instrumental in the final goal of the match in his short time on the field.

The match turned ugly in the end when defender Marcelo gave a harsh tackle on Fabregas to earn a red card. The two clubs were involved in a skirmish for the final moments.

Both clubs finished with 17 fouls.
