Jose Mourinho continues to watch his club roll through the competition, as Real Madrid earned a convincing victory over Lyon in Champions League group play, 4-0, on Tuesday, at Santiago Bernabeu.

Karim Benzema, who is from Lyon, got Real Madrid on the board in the 19th minute when a corner kick by Mesut Ozil resulted in a header by Cristiano Ronaldo that found its way to the French forward who had an uncontested tap in.

Real Madrid would go scoreless for the rest of the half, but in the 47th minute, Sami Khedira's right-footed shot from the center of the box found the bottom right corner of the goal.

It was a long night for Hugo Lloris. The French national team goalkeeper had an own goal in the 55th minute, and had to endure 27 shots by Real Madrid, with six on goal. Lyon managed just nine shots, with one on goal, and the underdogs only had possession for 32 percent of the match.

Sergio Ramos put the icing on the cake in the 81st minute with a volley from the center of the box to give Los Galacticos the four-goal victory.

it could have been worse for Lyon, who had had some chances, but simply squandered them. In the 39th minute, Xabi Alonso fed a ball through to Benzema who played it under Lloris for a goal, but it was disallowed as the referee claimed Alonso started the free kick too soon, and gave the midfielder a yellow card.

Real Madrid is currently atop the group with the victory and are basically ensured of andvancing to the knock out stage. Including La Liga matches, Real Madrid have now outscored their last five opponents 21-3.
