Some of Great Britain's most popular bands of the past and present performed during the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics.

The Spice Girls reunited and took the stage on Sunday. Twelve years after releasing their last album, the group sang in front of the thousands in London and the millions of people watching on television.

They sang the hit songs "Wannabe" and "Spice Up Your Life" while standing on top of cars. Both songs were released in 1996 and 1997, respectively.

The Spice Girls are the most successful female musical group of all time. They've sold over 75 million records worldwide and their 2007 tour earned them over $100 million.

One Direction also performed on the final night of the Games. The group sang their hit "What Makes You Beautiful."

At the moment, they are perhaps the most popular boy band. The 2011 release of their debut album "Up All Night" has sold over $3 million copies worldwide.
