Vinny Cerrato announced his resignation from the Washington Redskins' executive Vice Presidency of football operations, the club announced Thursday morning.

Cerrato will be replaced by Bruce Allen, the Redskins' owner Daniel Snyder announced today.

We agreed that the franchise needs someone different in this position, Cerrato said, according to a statement. I'm thankful to Dan Snyder and other members of his ownership team for the opportunities I've been given over the years.

Cerrato worked for the franchise over the last ten years.

Allen will begin work for the Redskins immediately, the club noted.He is the son of George Allen, the legendary former Redskins coach. He was named the National Football League's George Young NFL Executive of the Year.
