SAO PAULO, Brazil, Dec 10 - French media giant Vivendi (VIV.PA) said on Thursday it boosted its stake in Brazilian telecom company GVT (GVTT3.SA) to 72.1 percent, excluding unexercised purchase options.

The company raised its stake from the 59.4 percent reported to Brazilian securities industry regulators on Dec. 3, according to a statement distributed by e-mail from Paris.

Vivendi's total stake, including the options, now stands at 78.7 percent, representing 108 million voting shares of the Brazilian company, compared to 71.3 percent on Dec. 3, or 97.9 million shares. (Reporting by Guillermo Parra-Bernal, Georgia Jordan; editing by Leslie Gevirtz)
