Beau Biden suffered a minor stroke in 2010, and he was hospitalized last week for new symptoms including weakness and disorientation, Jason Miller, a spokesman for the Delaware Department of Justice, said in a statement obtained by Associated Press.

The White House confirmed that the vice president -- who spent time with Beau Biden over the weekend in Delaware -- was with his son at the Houston hospital Monday night, and an aide said the vice president would stay in Texas through Tuesday.

“This morning, the vice president accompanied his son Beau Biden to Houston, Texas, where Beau is being evaluated to determine the cause of an episode of disorientation and weakness that he experienced while on vacation with his family last week,” a White House statement obtained by the New York Times said.

The 44-year-old was hospitalized last week in Chicago, then met with his doctor in Philadelphia the following day before returning home to Wilmington and traveling to Houston in order to undergo testing in hopes of figuring out what is causing the symptoms, AP reported.

In May 2010, Beau Biden was hospitalized for a week for a mild stroke, and there is speculation that his new symptoms are connected to that episode. Doctors said that Beau Biden was “neurologically normal" at the time of his release from the hospital, according to the New York Times.

And, his father suffered a major brain aneurysm in 1987 when he was just a year older than Beau is now.
