UPDATE 3:30 p.m. EDT: The undercover police officer was shot in the leg and is undergoing surgery, according to CBS New York. One suspect has been apprehended in the shooting and another suspect was shot, the station said, citing New Jersey State Police.

UPDATE 3 p.m. EDT: Another person was shot during the incident, CBS New York reports. The New York City television station said the shooting actually occurred outside a Marshalls in the shopping complex, and that the police officer who was shot was undercover.

A narcotics officer was shot Tuesday afternoon outside a Wal-Mart in Garfield, N.J.

The shooting was reported around 2 p.m. in a shopping complex that includes GNC and Applebee’s, according to NBC New York.

A source told the television station that the officer was with the Paramus Police Department and was assigned to a narcotics task force.
