‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Crossover Announced At NYCC 2017

A “Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead” crossover is coming!

During the “Walking Dead” panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday, series creator Robert Kirkman revealed that a crossover event between the AMC zombie drama and its companion series “Fear the Walking Dead” is in early stages of development.

“We want these shows to have their own legs, tell their own stories and be their own thing, and I think we’ve finally gotten to a place with ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ where it has its own identity where … we can [now] play with some things,” Kirkman said (via TV Guide) of why he and his fellow executive producers have now decided to stage a crossover between the two shows.

Details about the crossover are being kept under wraps, but Kirkman revealed that one character will cross over between the two shows. “There is one character that is going to go from one show, that I will not name, to another show, that I will not name,” Kirkman teased. “Now, what does that mean? Because these timelines, like... how does that work? Are we going to see an interesting backstory of a ‘Walking Dead’ character in ‘Fear the Walking Dead’? Or are we going to see a ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ character show up in ‘The Walking Dead’ and show a future version of the character?”

While the air date for the crossover is yet to be announced, a source confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the crossover will take place at some point next year.

When “Fear the Walking Dead” viewers were reminded early in Season 3 that Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) is from Alabama, a lot of fans were quick to speculate that the she might be a relative of The Walking Dead’s” Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). “Fear the Walking Dead” showrunner Dave Erickson dismissed this theory, telling Comicbook.com in July that the Clark matriarch is “not related to Rick or anybody else on the other show, and the fact that she’s from the south is really just a coincidence.”

Interestingly, Dickens herself said at San Diego Comic-Con later that month that she thinks “Madison is, probably … related to Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus).” While the actress might have just been joking at the time, that playful banter could actually become a reality now that the crossover has already been announced.

“Fear the Walking Dead” continues its Season 3-run with an all new episode tonight at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC. Meanwhile, “The Walking Dead” Season 8 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 22 in the same time slot.
