Few details have emerged about the game, but publisher Activision released a teaser trailer for the game that confirmed a couple of key details. The game will be set before the first season of the AMC series and star reluctantly heroic redneck Daryl Dixon and his less-than-savory brother Merle.
Daryl and Merle will be forced to survive in a harsh world overrun by zombies. As such, players will be forced to ration their ammunition, food, and supplies in the survivor horror title. No place is truly safe for Daryl as he makes his way through the Georgia countryside in this new, post-apocalyptic world, Activision said.
Players will have the option of meeting and joining other characters on Daryl's road to Atlanta. The player's choices will have impact on the direction of the rest of the game.
The game is being published by gaming giant Activision and developed by Terminal Reality Studios. Terminal Reality is known for making games such as Star Wars Kinect, Ghostbusters, and BloodRayne.
The as-yet-unnamed FPS will have no connection to Telltale Games' Walking Dead video game. Telltale's edition is an episodic survival adventure following the lives of new characters not featured in the comic book or TV series. While the Telltale game considers the original comic books cannon, the new FPS will be set squarely in the world of the television series.
The Walking Dead, adapted from writer Robert Kirkman's comic book of the same name, follows a group of survivors as they attempt to survive a zombie apocalypse. Taking place in Atlanta and the surrounding areas, the show has built a strong fanbase around breakout character Daryl, who will star in the game.
The next Walking Dead game will hit stores in 2013, available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
