AMC may have accidentally spoiled its most popular series, “The Walking Dead.” On Wednesday, AMC announced that David Morrissey – who plays the Governor in the apocalyptic zombie drama – would be starring in the pilot for its coming series “Line of Sight.” While it’s possible that Morrissey will manage to pull double duty on both series, it seems more likely that he’ll be leaving his old show before long.

Officially, AMC denies that Morrissey will be leaving “The Walking Dead” anytime soon.

"We are huge fans of David Morrissey and are glad he'll be doing double duty for AMC viewers through his work on 'The Walking Dead' and our pilot for 'Line of Sight,' both of which are produced in Atlanta," AMC said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter.

However, this is not the first time that a casting announcement has preceded a character’s death on “The Walking Dead.” During production of the show’s second season, Variety reported that star Jon Bernthal, who played Rick’s enemy Shane on “The Walking Dead,” would be starring in the period drama “L.A. Noir” (which has now been retitled “Mob City”). By the end of the second season, Shane was zombie fodder, allowing Bernthal focus exclusively on the “Mob City” role.

While this is not solid proof that Morrissey will indeed be departing “The Walking Dead,” there are other clues as well. Throughout the third season, fans had been expecting Rick to kill the Governor in a climactic battle, and in the comic book the show is based on, the Governor was ultimately offed in a similar fashion. It’s clear that Morrissey’s character isn’t intended to live forever, and if this casting announcement is any hint, he certainly won’t live beyond the series’ upcoming season four.
