Walking Dead season 7 spoilers
How will Rick and the others move forward after Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, pictured) killed Glenn and Abraham on the Season 7 premiere of “The Walking Dead.” Gene Page/AMC

After an unbearably long wait, fans finally learned who Negan killed on AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” and it’s safe to say no one was prepared for what happened. Season 7 kicked off its premiere episode Sunday night by revealing that Negan brutally murdered not one, but two main characters.

During the episode, titled “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be,” Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) viciously beat Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) with a barbed-wire baseball bat, called Lucille, after playing a sick game of “eeny meeny miny moe.”

At first, it appeared that Abraham was going to be Negan’s only victim but after Daryl (Norman Reedus) jumped up and tried to attack Negan, the crazed villain decided another person needed to die and set his sights on Glenn (Steven Yeun). As Glenn’s wife Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and the rest of the group watched in horror, Negan repeatedly struck Glenn over the head with Lucille. The beating was so bad that it caused one of Glenn’s eyeballs to pop out of its socket and virtually left him unrecognizable.

After the brutal killings, Negan continued to terrorize the group by taking Rick (Andrew Lincoln) on a terrifying car ride and almost making him cut off his son Carl’s (Chandler Riggs) arm. The episode ended with Negan asserting himself as the new leader.

While the Season 7 premiere answered the long-awaited Season 6 finale cliffhanger, the episode left us with a bunch of burning questions about Rick and his group.

How will Glenn and Abraham’s deaths affect everyone moving forward?

Rick and his group have been through a lot on “The Walking Dead,” but nothing as devastating as what Negan put them through. Episode 1 ended with the gang shaken up, in shock and extremely upset so it’ll be interesting to see how everyone handles the loss in future episodes. We expect Maggie, who’s pregnant with Glenn’s baby, to have an exceptionally hard time handling things since Glenn’s death means she’s now lost every single member of her family.

Will Daryl blame himself for Glenn’s death?

Daryl was only trying to protect Rosita (Christian Serratos) when he attacked Negan, but it inadvertently led to Glenn’s death. Although Daryl was separated from the group, we wonder how his and Maggie’s reunion will be once (or if) he’s able to reconnect with everyone.

What will happen to Daryl?

Because Daryl lunged at Negan, he was taken away and forced to join Negan’s group, The Saviors. Does that mean Daryl will now have to turn against Rick and his friends or risk getting killed if he refuses to do what Negan says?

Will More Main Characters Be Killed By Negan?

Negan made it very clear in the Season 7 premiere that if Rick and his group don’t cooperate, more people will die. With so much devastation in the first episode, it’s scary to think what Negan has planned for Rick and the others in future episodes.

How Will Morgan and Carol React?

So far, Morgan (Lennie James) and Carol (Melissa McBride) have no idea that Negan took out two of their members. In the Season 6 finale when Rick and the others were lined up on the ground pleading for their lives, Morgan and Carol were on their way to The Kingdom after getting rescued by two of Ezekiel’s (Khary Payton) men. We expect for Morgan and Carol to reunite with Rick and the others at some point, so how will they handle the news that Glenn and Abraham are dead?

Will the group stay together?

It’ll be interesting to see if the group bands together to fight Negan, or if one (or a few of them) wander off and leave the group behind after witnessing something so brutal.

“The Walking Dead” Season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
