“Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus has held onto a very strange prop from the AMC set. On Friday the actor posted a photo on Instagram of a room filled with what appears to be an NSFW Pink Panther blow up doll and a zombie head prop from the show. But it doesn’t look like just any prop — the head appears to be the one made from a mold of actor Johnny Depp’s head.

Devoted fans of the series will remember that the prop in question was used in Season 6, episode 12. The episode focused on Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) group hatching a plan to help the Hilltop Community after the Saviors threatened their leader, Gregory (Xander Berkeley). Although they had just met the other survivors, they agreed to help them with their problem in exchange for food and supplies. To trick the Saviors into thinking that Gregory was dead, the group went out searching for walkers that bore a resemblance to the Hilltop Leader. They brought back three severed heads, and Jesus (Tom Payne) aided in choosing the head that would work the best.

“Walking Dead” executive producer and special makeup effects department head Greg Nicotero revealed to Entertainment Weekly after the episode that they used an old mold of A-list actor Johnny Depp to create one of the props.

“One of the heads, I don’t know if I’m going to get in trouble if I say this, was Johnny Depp,” Nicotero explained. “I think we had sculpted an emaciated version of a dummy head for something and we used Johnny Depp’s head as a basis just for a clap sculpt.”

It would make sense that Reedus would be in possession of the prop now — because he was asking Nicotero for the heads during filming!

“Norman kept saying he wanted the heads when we were done shooting,” the EP added. “I said we’ve got to wait until the picture is logged.”
