U.S. stocks ended a seesaw session higher on Wednesday, as a 3-percent rise in oil prices buoyed energy shares and strong profits from Boeing Co. offset concerns about merger financing.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 67.80 points, or 0.49 percent, at 13,784.75. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 6.95 points, or 0.46 percent, at 1,517.99. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 8.31 points, or 0.31 percent, at 2,648.17.
