Stocks rose on Monday on hopes euro zone policymakers were putting together new measures to help ease the region's debt crisis, with the Dow briefly climbing more than one percent.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 95.02 points, or 0.88 percent, to 10,866.50. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 5.96 points, or 0.52 percent, to 1,142.39. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 1.31 points, or 0.05 percent, to 2,484.54.
