U.S. stocks rose at the open on Friday, underpinned by a rise in crude oil and other commodity prices as the U.S. dollar edged lower amid speculation that debt-laden Greece would grab a financial lifeline.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 23.88 points, or 0.22 percent, to 10,950.95. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 3.16 points, or 0.27 percent, to 1,189.60. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 4.61 points, or 0.19 percent, to 2,441.42.
