Stocks opened higher on Monday, signaling the S&P could bounce back from its worst one-day drop since June 29 on Friday, as earnings season kicks into high gear.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 42.99 points, or 0.43 percent, at 10,140.89. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 4.89 points, or 0.46 percent, at 1,069.77. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 11.41 points, or 0.52 percent, at 2,190.46.
