Wall Street adds gains after home sales data

Stocks added gains on Tuesday after data showed existing home sales rose more than expected in November as prices continued to fall and buyers took advantage of a popular tax credit.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 45.35 points, or 0.44 percent, to 10,459.49. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> added 4.28 points, or 0.38 percent, to 1,118.33. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> put on 12.41 points, or 0.55 percent, to 2,250.07.
