Stocks briefly added to losses on Thursday as data showed an index of business conditions in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region fell in November from October.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 21.72 points, or 0.18 percent, at 11,883.87. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> dipped 7.04 points, or 0.57 percent, at 1,229.87. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was off 11.32 points, or 0.43 percent, at 2,628.29.
