Stocks rose at the open on Monday as investors scooped up shares beaten down in last week's selloff.

The Institute for Supply Management's September gauge of the services sector is due at 10:00 EDT. A reading of 50, on the verge of growth after 11 months of contraction, is expected according to a Reuters survey.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 17.68 points, or 0.19 percent, to 9,505.35. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 3.72 points, or 0.36 percent, to 1,028.93. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 9.56 points, or 0.47 percent, to 2,057.67.
