U.S. stocks dipped at the open on Tuesday, a day after Alcoa posted in-line earnings but lower-than-expected revenues as the Dow closed above 11,000 for the first time in almost 19 months.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 7.41 points, or 0.07 percent, to 10,998.56. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> shed 1.23 points, or 0.10 percent, to 1,195.25. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 2.83 points, or 0.12 percent, to 2,455.04.
