Stocks extended gains on Friday after data showed consumer confidence held steady in March, but topped expectations.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> added 54.65 points, or 0.50 percent, to 10,895.86. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 7.14 points, or 0.61 percent, to 1,172.87. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 14.81 points, or 0.62 percent, to 2,412.22.

Wall Street opened higher after euro zone leaders agreed to create a safety net to help debt-burdened Greece.
