U.S. stocks extended gains on Thursday, with the Dow rising slightly more than 1 percent, led by financial and industrial shares.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 124.88 points, or 1.03 percent, at 12,276.29. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 12.12 points, or 0.97 percent, at 1,261.76. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 23.14 points, or 0.89 percent, at 2,613.12.
