Stocks extended losses on Friday, with large declines in banking and consumer shares, after government data showed the U.S. economy shed jobs in June for the first time this year.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 81.62 points, or 0.84 percent, to 9,650.91. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> fell 7.24 points, or 0.70 percent, to 1,020.13. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 15.27 points, or 0.73 percent, to 2,086.09.
