On Friday, Labor Department data showed U.S. employers cut 11,000 jobs in November, the smallest amount since the recession began in December 2007.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> shed 3.10 points, or 0.03 percent, to 10,385.80. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> dropped 0.54 points, or 0.05 percent, to 1,105.44. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> fell 0.96 points, or 0.04 percent, to 2,193.39.
