Stocks opened little changed on Thursday as worries over the economy's recovery caused by an unexpected drop in December retail sales was offset by gains in technology shares.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> edged up 2.95 points, or 0.03 percent, at 10,683.72. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> eased 0.24 points, or 0.02 percent, to 1,145.44. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 0.61 points, or 0.03 percent, to 2,308.51.
