Wall Street gains on M&A news, tech sector

U.S. stocks rose on Monday shortly after opening lower, helped by some merger and acquisition news and strong gains in the tech sector.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 12.71 points, or 0.12 percent, at 10,210.74. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 2.45 points, or 0.23 percent, at 1,080.41. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 16.27 points, or 0.74 percent, at 2,212.72.
