U.S. stocks held gains on Tuesday after an industry group said consumer confidence rose in March, above a forecast of economists polled by Reuters.
The Conference Board said its index of consumer attitudes rose to 52.5 in March from an upwardly revised 46.4 in February, and above the 50 estimate.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 34.23 points, or 0.31 percent, to 10,930.09. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 3.76 points, or 0.32 percent, to 1,176.98. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 10.92 points, or 0.45 percent, to 2,415.28.
