Stocks rose on Thursday after a report showed factory activity in the Mid-Atlantic region increased more-than-expected in February, while a separate gauge of the U.S. economy's prospects rose for the 10th month to a record high in January.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 31.14 points, or 0.30 percent, to 10,340.38. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 1.83 points, or 0.17 percent, to 1,101.34. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 1.30 points, or 0.06 percent, to 2,227.59.
