Stocks lost ground in a choppy session on Wednesday, weighed by consumer shares after Burger King saw a surprising drop in customer visits and by a lack of clarity in Intel Corp's revenue forecast.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> added 2.71 points, or 0.03 percent, to 7,922.89. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> slipped 2.50 points, or 0.30 percent, to 839.00. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gave up 24.47 points, or 1.51 percent, at 1,601.25.
