U.S. stocks opened flat on Monday after posting two straight weeks of gains that drove indexes to new multi-year highs.

The positive sentiment has been helped by the Friday resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, which eased tensions around the region.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 27.24 points, or 0.22 percent, at 12,246.02. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 1.02 points, or 0.08 percent, at 1,328.13. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 0.89 points, or 0.03 percent, at 2,808.55.
