Stocks opened higher on Tuesday as investors snapped up beaten-down shares a day after Wall Street racked up its worst one-day slide in two months.

The Dow's gains however were limited by a drag from Boeing Co after the planemaker said it was delaying the maiden flight of its newest 787 Dreamliner.

Boeing shares were down nearly 7 percent at $43.73.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 7.48 points, or 0.09 percent, at 8,346.49. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 3.14 points, or 0.35 percent, at 896.18. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 7.37 points, or 0.42 percent, at 1,773.56.
