U.S. stocks opened lower on Tuesday, giving back some of the previous session's hefty gains as concerns lingered about how Greece will get its budget deficit under control.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 98.25 points, or 0.91 percent, to 10,686.89. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gave up 11.76 points, or 1.01 percent, at 1,147.97. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 28.80 points, or 1.21 percent, to 2,345.87.
