Stocks jumped to session highs on Friday, recovering from an earlier drop, as investors snapped up energy shares and stocks of companies benefiting from a weaker dollar.

Exxon Mobil Corp , up 1.6 percent to $69.51, was the top boost to the Dow. Another standout was McDonald's Corp , gaining nearly 2 percent to $56.69.

A weaker dollar makes some U.S. assets more appealing to some investors.
