Stocks extended gains on Thursday after brighter outlooks from Texas Instruments and Procter & Gamble

and a successful Treasury debt auction put Wall Street on pace for a fifth straight session of gains.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 75.20 points, or 0.79 percent, to 9,622.42. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 8.66 points, or 0.84 percent, to 1,042.03. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 20.36 points, or 0.99 percent, at 2,080.75.
