Stocks rose at the open on Tuesday, rallying for a third straight day, although gains were capped after data showed the U.S. economy grew in the third quarter more slowly than first thought.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 17.84 points, or 0.17 percent, at 10,431.98. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 1.92 points, or 0.17 percent, at 1,115.97. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 5.06 points, or 0.23 percent, at 2,242.72.
