Stocks slid at the open on Tuesday on fresh concerns over fiscal problems in the euro zone ahead of bank repayments to the European Central Bank this week.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 127.72 points, or 1.26 percent, to 10,010.80. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> slid 16.26 points, or 1.51 percent, to 1,058.31. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> fell 38.55 points, or 1.74 percent, to 2,182.10.

The S&P 500 hit a bearish technical alert as its daily MACD, a widely followed momentum indicator, generated a 'sell' signal.
