The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 39.73 points, or 0.31 percent, to 12,590.30. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> lost 4.49 points, or 0.33 percent, to 1,337.59. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> fell 14.15 points, or 0.50 percent, to 2,830.91.
