U.S. stocks fell at the open on Friday after a massive earthquake hit Japan and accelerating inflation in China unnerved investors.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 33.08 points, or 0.28 percent, to 11,951.53. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> dipped 2.42 points, or 0.19 percent, to 1,292.69. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 6.51 points, or 0.24 percent, to 2,694.51.
