About halfway through the fourth-quarter earnings season, investors and traders will soon hear from several more closely watched players, including Kellogg, LinkedIn, Visa, Walt Disney, and Yum Brands.

Among the 231 companies in the S&P 500 index that have posted earnings for the fourth quarter, 69.3 percent have beaten expectations, according to Thomson Reuters data. That’s a higher proportion than during the past four quarters and above the average since 1994.

Overall, S&P 500 fourth-quarter earnings rose 3.7 percent, Thomson Reuters data showed. That's above a 1.9 percent forecast at the beginning of the earnings season, but well below a 9.9 percent profit growth forecast on Oct. 1.
